Empuriabrava beach renews the Ecobeach flag
Empuriabrava beach has renewed the Ecoplayas flag. This distinction, awarded by ATEGRUS (Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Cleaning and Environment), was already achieved in 2019. Last 2020, with the pandemic, no renewals were made.
The Ecoplayas flag requires that each year an improvement has to be made at an environmental and/or service level on the beach, with the implementation of measures to reduce the environmental impact of activities on the beaches, the reduction of waste generated, the reduction of consumption at source (saving water, energy, etc.), among others.
This year, a series of improvements have been implemented which have led to the renewal of the award:
- Extension of the natural area in the north of the beach for the regeneration of the fauna and flora of the dune communities.
- Installation of drainage wells under the showers to prevent water stagnation and therefore the proliferation of E.coli and faecal enterococci, thus reducing the hygienic-sanitary risks from the showers.
- Installation of a glass door inside the main lifeguard module to improve energy efficiency.
